Anticipating the Holidays
At Over the Rainbow, we have a very nice selection of gift ideas, holiday cards and some wrapping paper, Christmas décor, both new and vintage, that you won’t find anywhere else around here, and much more. We are small but we pack a mighty amount of merchandise into this space. We’d love for you to visit and shop. We’re decorated inside for the holidays already, and by next week we’ll be lighting up the night [though always mindful of the Dark Sky Initiative that is keeping our area one of the most beautiful for stargazing…

Anticipation…
Almost Spring Break in West Texas~ March, the first month of Spring, when the Calendar finally makes it official, and when everyone from families of school age children to college students take advantage of some time off to explore, is upon us. In West Texas, we will be ready to greet the many tourists that seek out this wild and wide open corner of the Lone Star State. Spring Break is a divider for us. The wind is still wild, the weather still changeable and unpredictable, but wildflowers and tree buds are showing up everywhere,…

Live Local
This is an edited Repost from last year. The Idea of Shopping and Living Locally is as relevant and important a topic as ever. Happy Holidays… Close to Home Whereas I’m a proponent of Thinking Globally, I am also always aware of and trying to be mindful of what is happening close to home (Where the Heart is!) We need, I believe, to be considering the implications and ramifications of the actions we take, not just personally, but as each ultimately affects the world we live in. And a great deal of what influences the…

Go WEST
Here’s another post featuring a nearby #Small Business that we at Somewhere Over the Rainbow loves. WEST is amazing! An Antique and Vintage shop just packed with trinkets, treasures and the unexpected. It’s every bit as offbeat and eclectic (maybe even more so ;-)) as we are and so much fun to visit. I could spend hours and still not take it all in. Join me today for a pictorial tour that doesn’t even begin to show you all there is to see at WEST. The Guadalupan Lady WEST. Fort Davis Located in the heart…

Happy Birthday to…
Somewhere Over the Rainbow The long and short of it is that I’m not sure if it feels like a year since we launched this small Shop on the Edge of Eternity or not. Some months have trickled by like a dried up desert spring, and others have rushed by like the water down State Street after one of our monsoonal downpours. (Yes, we think about Water a lot out here.) However it might feel to me, a year has wound passed since we opened the store. The Official Birthday is March 18th (Wednesday; the…

What’s Behind the Curtain
As of this weekend (Mid-February…) we have officially been open for business nine months. I’ll admit that it has not been without its ups and downs. There are days when business is so good that our optimism soars. And then there are those others that pass with not a single customer coming through the door. When that happens, the mood tends to shift into unwelcome channels of “what if?” I Wrote the first version of this post last summer after being open for only a couple of months. A lot has changed in the interim,…
