Getting to Know Our Neighbors
At Somewhere Over the Rainbow, we’re not just enthusiastic about our own shop. Small businesses, particularly those in Small Towns need to support one another, to carry that idea of Shopping Local to the next level. We have to Live Local, to remember our neighbors, visit their businesses and choose to keep our own dollars in the community whenever it is feasible. To those ends, we want to use space on our website to promote our friends and neighbors in Fort Davis, and all the neighboring areas. Look for a post about a business or local…

Behind the Rainbow
https://www.overtherainbowtx.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/07/firefly-window.mp4#t=,5 As of this weekend (July 17 & 18) we have officially been open for business two months. It has not been without its ups and downs I’ll admit. There have been days when business was so good that our optimism soared. And others that passed without a single customer coming through the door. When that happens, the mood tends to shift into unwelcome channels of “what if?” Even after so short a time, we all are beginning to realize that you can’t let yourself get caught in these loops for good or ill. A…

A Cool Fourth…
In Fort Davis Texas I don’t know about you, but I’m having a hard time wrapping my mind around the fact that July 4th is just a couple of days away. Maybe this last month has just flown by, or maybe we (Somewhere Over the Rainbow Team) have been so busy for the last three months that time just got away from us. However, the first big milestone of summer is definitely here. I know I’ve been looking forward to it. Not only is it our first July 4th in the new store, but last…

Time to Settle In
After the Grand Opening We had an awesome time last Saturday at the Grand Opening for Somewhere Over the Rainbow. The day was hot but beautiful and we enjoyed the visits from friends, old and new. We would like to thank everyone that came by and all who participated in the Celebration. A special thanks to the fine Folks from Fort Davis Chamber of Commerce for putting it all together. Congratulations to the winners in our little door prize drawing; Ann Marie, Jennifer and Sue. We hope to do more such promotions in the future.…

Building a Dream
Hoping the Foundation is Good Having, after well over a month of hard work, finally opened Somewhere Over the Rainbow, we are in that rather nerve racking period of waiting to see. If you build it, will they come? So far, we’ve had a couple of really good days, and a few that have been anything but. We are on State Street, but a little off the beaten path, and sitting just a bit back from the road. Our next door neighbors are Cueva De Leon (Yum)and Davis Mountains Rock Shop (the business owned by…

Finally Over the Rainbow
Open this Week We’re so excited (read: nervous, stressed and just a little crazy) to announce that at long last, Somewhere Over the Rainbow is Opening! Now, this isn’t the Grand Opening. That will come Soon, complete with a Sale and some Prizes I think. Look for an announcement in the next week or two. Our Hours are still a bit flexible, but look for us most days but Wednesday (Closed) from 10 to 6ish except Sunday. Then it’s 11 to 4! We’re looking forward to finally getting to meet a lot more of our…

Go For the Lights
Marfa, TX Stay for the charm. Not to mention the food, the art and the warm atmosphere that’ll keep you coming back for more. Marfa is amazing. We recently went and spent most of a day in this small, vibrantly creative town. Even though much has been impacted this year by Covid-19, it remains a destination not to be missed. A treat for the eye and the camera. There is something lovely, surprising, edgy or artsy (or all at once) around every corner. It is a town that has taken a remote location, a daunting…
